Life so Far

Time moves so fast and yet so slow here.  Some days I feel like I have been in country for years, and yet my calendar says it has only been months. I have done a lot for not officially starting work yet.  And really I have done so little compared to what I hope to do.  So lets see, I have started planning some community projects with Lori, including a mobile library and benches and table plans for the canal in New Amsterdam.  We have already been to the local saw mills to collect scrap wood for the projects.  As a side not Lori also made me an awesome desk...

I have also adopted a lovely kitty named Charlie.  I am about 90% sure it is a girl but went with a unisex name just in case.

I also have been attending Sign Language classes taught by Lori,  I cant say I'm great but Lori has high hopes for me...

Sign Language class usually involves at least one beer...

I also taught my first workshop called Protect Yourself, I gave it to the members of my foundation and they really enjoyed it and thought it would work well with the Guyanese youth.

Working with the resources you have...
I also started going to an exercise class, however I may need some time to recover as I got attacked by sand fleas...
I spend many days relaxing in my hammock catching the breeze and relaxing.
Classes will start at the end of this month and I am looking forward to meeting the kids, and teachers!  For now though I am concentrating on relaxing and hanging with Charlie...

International Youth Day

Wednesday August 12th was International Youth Day, and some PCV's and I got to attend Guyana's festival in Georgetown.  It was awesome to see so many youths turn up to learn about different opportunities and have the Government acknowledge their power.  For me the best part was the cultural concert.  I got to see traditional dances, songs, and spoken word, all by Guyanese youth.  It was awesome experience!

Awesome senior project from University of Guyana students, encouraging youth to talk to their parents about sex
